You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Galatians 5:13‭-‬14

We do need to explore what freedom in Christ means.

This freedom doesn’t come from abiding by the law of “Love your neighbors as yourself” as another form of law. Doesn’t it sound like a predicament to keep a command to fulfill the entire law? As if it is the law to rule over all other laws?

Where does the freedom come in? Are we truly free at all if we have to keep a law, whether it be one or a million?

Because this freedom is not for indulging ourselves, but for having the free choice to indulge in Jesus’ love in our hearts. We have His love not by law or obligation, but by choosing to experience and accept His love.

His love in our hearts naturally inspires us to love our neighbors as ourselves and to serve one another in love.

That is what gives us freedom in Christ, and the entire law gets fulfilled.
